Be Part of Race Weekend
You don't need to be on the starting grid to have a meaningful part in the event.
Whether you're a racer, racing parent, family member, crew member, former racer, motorsports fan, spectator, experienced event operator, or someone interested in helping for the first time, there may be a place for you on the SoCal GP Race Operations Team.
Some people join us with years of race-event experience. Others start with an appropriate first-time assignment and learn how the operation works from inside the event.
Where You Can Help
-
Help participants arrive, move through event check-in, and get where they need to go.
-
Support the Technical Inspection process under the direction of the designated technical team.
-
Assist with timing, scoring, race-data, and related event workflow under the designated timing function.
-
Help distribute, track, recover, and reconcile the timing tags used throughout the event.
-
Help organize rider staging, lineup, movement, and pit-flow operations.
-
Support course and corner operations when assigned and appropriately oriented by SGPRA.
-
Help with awards staging, results flow, presentations, and podium operations.
-
Help prepare the event, move appropriate equipment and signage, and return the operation to order after racing.
The Morris Cup Race Operations Team includes a range of event-support functions. Choose the area that interests you most when you register.
Your preferred role is a starting point.
Selecting a role during registration does not guarantee that assignment.
SGPRA reviews event need, availability, experience, safety requirements, racing conflicts, and assignment suitability before confirming each Race Operations position.
Some assignments may require prior experience, additional orientation, organizer approval, or placement with an experienced lead.
NEW TO RACE OPERATIONS?
You do not need prior motorsports-event experience for every Race Operations assignment.
Tell us what experience you have—if any—and which areas interest you. SGPRA will review your request and determine an assignment that fits the needs of the event, your availability, and the level of experience or supervision appropriate for the role.
Confirmed team members receive their actual assignment, reporting information, event contact, and any assignment-specific orientation or instructions before they are expected to perform the role.
THAT'S OKAY.
Racing Too?
Helping for Only Part of the Weekend?
For the Morris Cup, you may indicate that you are:
available all three days with the same preferred role;
available on selected individual days;
interested in different roles on different days; or
available for a shorter period that you explain in the registration form.
That's okay too.
-
The volunteer intake uses 9:00 AM–5:00 PM as a general availability-planning window.
That is not a universal report time.
Your exact reporting time, location, role, and event contact will be provided with your confirmed assignment.
-
If you're also racing the Morris Cup, tell us during registration so Race Operations can consider your on-track schedule when reviewing possible assignments.
SGPRA Organizer Credit
Qualifying completed assignments may receive SGPRA Organizer Credit for future eligible SGPRA events. Applicable credit terms will be provided with the confirmed assignment.
Organizer Credit is based on the qualifying contribution actually completed. Registering, receiving an assignment, or checking in by itself does not guarantee credit.
Making race weekend happen has value.
How It Works
Submitting the volunteer registration is a request to join the Race Operations Team. It is not automatic confirmation of a particular assignment.
-
Use the MotorsportReg volunteer registration to select your available day or days, preferred role or roles, and any relevant experience or scheduling information.
-
We consider your availability, experience, racing conflicts, event need, safety requirements, and suitability for the available assignments.
-
SGPRA will contact you with your actual role, reporting information, event contact, and any orientation or instructions that apply.
